I wanted to write to you before the end of the academic year to say hello and formally introduce myself. I am delighted and honoured to be appointed as the new Headteacher for Chester Blue Coat CE Primary School. These last few months have been an incredibly challenging time for everyone but I want to say what an amazing job you’ve done. Alongside dealing with huge upheaval to life as we know it, you’re supporting your children’s well-being and learning and I recognise this is no small task.
On a personal note, I’ve been married to Katie for thirteen years and we have two children. Finlay is twelve and attends Christleton High School where we live; Molly-Skye is ten and she will be going into Year 6 at Christleton Primary School in September. I know how great being a parent is but I also know how tough it can be as well. We have lived in Chester for eleven years having previously lived in Oxford – I grew up in Dover, so yes, I am Mr Hover from Dover!
Professionally, I’ve been a successful Headteacher for the last six and a half years at an Ashton Hayes Primary School in Chester. Previously, I was Deputy Headteacher at Upton Westlea Primary School but I began my teaching career in Oxfordshire and moved to become a senior teacher in a large junior school in Buckinghamshire. I qualified as a teacher from Canterbury Christchurch University in Kent having gained my undergraduate degree at Chester University. I lived just around the corner on Parkgate Road and then in Salisbury Street and Cambrian View, so I know the area well!
This is a school with an extraordinary charm and an ethos which holds the children at its heart. We are lucky to have a highly-skilled, committed team who strive for the utmost success for our children and who have a caring and supportive ethos at their core. Chester Blue Coat CE Primary School is undoubtedly a unique school and I feel privileged to be leading us forward.
It is my aim to build on the secure foundations and current achievements ensuring that our school is forward thinking and ambitious within a supportive and safe environment. I fully appreciate how important each year of a child’s school life is towards preparing them for the future. I am passionate about learning and have high expectations, not only for myself but for all members of our school community.
Thanks to the hard work of the staff, pupils and the wider school community during Mr O’Brien’s time as Headteacher, I’m joining Blue Coat at an exciting moment. I have met regularly with Mr O’Brien over the last few months, making plans for how school will look in September and will be in touch again before school begins in the Autumn Term so that we can be in a position to welcome all pupils back to school safely and successfully.
I will speak with as many children as I can during the Autumn Term and tell them about why I think Blue Coat is already a great school. I will be talking at length to the staff and the children to see how we as a school can develop further and continue to grow. I want to spend time in my first term listening to members of our school community and understand your hopes and dreams for the future of Chester Blue Coat CE Primary School. I will then work with the Governing body and the staff to develop a detailed Action Plan to help us move forward together.
I hope you have a great summer holiday and I look forward to meeting you all very soon.
