National Funding Formula

SCHOOL FUNDING CONSULTATION

You may have seen the current stories in the press about school funding in the future. It is now at the consultation stage and your voice is an important one to the Government. This letter is to inform you about the possible impact on our school and what you can do about it.

Every School Loses

The proposed National Funding Formula (NFF) has been designed to be fairer for all schools. This is not the case as far as our school is concerned. We are currently in one of the poorest funded local authorities. However, we have provided an excellent education to our children despite this fundamental drawback. This will continue and we remain committed to providing the best experience for our students, your children. The NFF was expected to benefit schools like ours but the proposals clearly show that we will continue to be poorly funded.

Potential cuts in our school

Our school could lose up to £145,000 a year by 2020 and we are making decisions now to reduce the impact of that on your child. The type of provision that we are considering includes; curriculum enhancements like music lessons and additional swimming; staffing hours; staffing numbers; equipment and resources to support learning. While it is our job to reduce the impact of funding cuts, they will clearly affect the provision we can offer.

What can you do

You may be aware of the strength of feeling, nationally, on this issue and you can take part in the national parent’s campaign on http://www.Fairfundingforallschools.org.

You can write to your local MP to protest at the cuts. The consultation period ends on March 22nd 2017 so letters must be received by this date. Your letter does not have to be lengthy or complicated but simply state that you have grave concerns about the impact that further cuts (as a result of the proposed NFF) may have on your child’s education. If you live in Chester, your local MPs details are as follows:-

Office of Chris Matheson MP

25 Castle Street

Chester

CH1 2DS

If you would find it easier to raise your concerns with Chris Matheson online, please follow this link: http://chrismatheson.co.uk/schoolcuts

You could also copy your letter to the Rt Hon Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for Education, House of Commons, London SW1A OAA

There is further information on our website, including details of a protest march taking place on Saturday 25th March in Chester City Centre.

Yours truly

V O’Brien
